The original Merchant's House, where merchants met to 'talk shop', was built in 1659. All that remains of that original building is it's steeple which lives on as the Briggait steeple.

The current Merchants House, on the west side of George Square was designed in 1874 by John Burnet. A beautiful sandstone building with  sculptures of people appearing to hold up its bay windows, it has a white marble vestibule in its main entrance at 7 West George Street, stain-glass windows depicting its 16th century origins and a fantastic Victorian hall. Probably most famous however, is its spectacular Tall-Ship sailing on a Globe weather-vane on top of the domed roof at the top of the corner tower and which can be seen from every direction.

Bryden Medical is to be found on the fourth floor and with one office being in the original tower, it benefits from high ceilings and large bright windows.
